This unique Barro Negro Pottery in bubbly fish shape arrangement is inspired by Oaxaca's vibrant colors and centuries old craftsmanship.
The tradition of barro negro pottery dates back centuries, practiced by the Zapotecs and Mixtecs who inhabited the region. The clay used to craft this pottery is native to San Bartolo Coyotepec, a small town in Oaxaca. What sets barro negro apart from other ceramics is its glossy black finish, achieved through a firing process that restricts oxygen, transforming the natural grey clay into an exquisite black. Crafting barro negro is a labor-intensive process that requires not only skill but also a deep understanding of the natural elements. Artisans shape the clay by hand, without the use of a potter’s wheel.
